An all-female Iranian troupe is slated to perform the traditional Persian puppet show of Bald Hero in three Indian cities.
The Apple Tree art group will perform the award-winning show during the 2010 edition of the Ishara International Puppet Festival.
“The group includes four sisters who have been awarded for their brilliant performance of the puppet show throughout the world,” head of the Apple Tree group, Majid Giahchi, told the Fars News Agency.
The show will be performed in the Indian capital of New Delhi, as well as Mumbai and Gurgaon.
Bald Hero has gone on stage in Turkey, Poland, Belarus, Ireland, Italy, Serbia and Bosnia, and has received nine international prizes, including the best puppeteer award of the 2008 VALISE International Theatre Festival in Lomza, Poland.
“The show was on the verge of being forgotten until 2005 when the Apple Tree artists started doing extensive research on the story and reviving the puppet show,” said Giahchi.
Bald Hero is a traditional hand puppet play that tells the story of a hero who loves money and uses every trick to get more money with the help of his naughty assistant, Mobarak.
