a world of mythos is collapsing in Amin Nazar’s work. The artist, recognised as a Master in Iranian contemporary art, etches deft black lines and highly kinetic bursts of paint to represent the crumbling away of a noble tradition. We see Persian wrestlers frozen in the moment before impact with the ground, their heads replaced with grotesque masks. Stumpy, helmeted men with beards glare back at us, or acrobatic dancers are captured in mid-somersault. Energy, conflict and more than a hint of wry humour abounds in these works as we sense an artist struggling to equate a rich imagined past with a volatile present.
