The worldwide community of museums, including the museums in Iran, will celebrate the 35th anniversary of International Museum Day around 18 May, 2012.

In 2012, Museums in a Changing World. New Challenges, new inspirations is the theme of International Museum Day. Today, the world is changing faster than ever. New technology delivers new ideas, gigabytes of information, news of an increasingly unstable climate. ICOM explains: 

"From America and Oceania to Europe, Asia and Africa, International Museum Day aims to increase public awareness of the role of museums in developing society. 
International Museum Day will allow its visitors to wonder about the role of museums in our new society, in the era of new media, and to discover and rediscover how museums are looking to the future in terms of sustainable development.
