Running in its 11th consecutive year, Christie’ March auction will be one of the largest to date showcasing the very best of modern and contemporary art from the region, in particular the concurrent themes and images that were tackled across Iran, Iraq, Lebanon and Egypt.
A total of 114 artists will have access to the international platform Christie‘s has been developing for the arts of the region.
The majority of works offered in the Dubai auction on 18 March are from private collections, spread from as far as Los Angeles to Amman, from Arkansas to Sweden, Argentina to Beirut, which lays testament to the far reach of art from the Middle East and the maturity of its market and the pivotal positioning of Christie’s Dubai.
A work by the Iranian Artist Charles Hossein Zenderoudi appears on this term of Christie’s Catalogue.
In May 2006 Christie's held its first auction of International Modern & Contemporary Art in the Middle East, in Dubai. As a growing sign of maturity for Modern and Contemporary Arab, Iranian and Turkish Art, Christie’s Dubai introduced a Part I and Part II sales spread over two consecutive days in October 2011.
The Dubai auctions continue to act as a major catalyst in the development of the art market in the Middle East. Featured artists include Parviz Tanavoli, Mahmoud Said, Paul Guiragossian, Fateh Moudarres, Mohammed Ehsai, Abdulnasser Gharem, Hamed Nada, Abdul Hadi El-Gazzar, Ayman Baalbaki, Shirin Neshat and many others.
